How I Stopped Wasting Money on Conventional Shampoo

Thanks to the Mommypotamus, I have been covering myself in honey, molasses, fenugreek seeds, and other unmentionables for weeks. It is the best stress relief I’ve had in months.

I promised to report back after trialing some of the recipes from DIY Organic Beauty Recipes (affiliate link). I’m here to tell you that I am in love.

I’m so in love that I’ve partnered up with the Mommypotamus and will soon offer her famous Sweet Orange and Honey Shampoo in my shop!

My hair is shiny, soft, and thicker than it has been for ages. My teeth are whiter. My skin looks younger. I no longer avoid catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror.

Here are my favorites so far.   […]

DIY Healing Skin Balm

DIY Healing Skin Balm

Beautiful snow and cold temperatures spell trouble for ultra dry and sensitive skin. This skin balm has proven itself time and time again to sooth dry, itchy skin, heal scars, prevent wound infection (even from cat bites teeming with bacteria), and save little noses from chapping and soreness during the cold and flu season.

The bars are made from the most skin nourishing ingredients available and all are from sustainable sources. I avoided the use of oils because they do not hydrate well enough for our skin during the cold winter months.

Oil Pulling: A How To Guide for Better Health

Oil Pulling: A How To Guide for Better Health

Have you seen my guide on oil cleansing?

Oil pulling, also known as pulling oil, oil swishing, and Kavala gandusha or gandusha, is an  ancient practice of moving oil around your mouth to remove toxins. It has become popular again in recent years as an easy way to improve your health without a lot of effort.

It’s also my favorite way to start the day. My teeth have never felt cleaner, are whiter than ever, and the skin around my jaw has tightened back up.

What surprised me most is that it clears my head from sleep and wakes me up better than a cup of coffee. I feel invigorated, happy, and ready to start the day.

DIY Organic Beauty Recipes and ‘Me’ Time

Cinnamon and Vanilla Spice Winter Scrub

That scrumptious looking dessert you see is actually a Cinnamon and Vanilla Spice Winter Scrub from the highly anticipated new book by Mommypotamus. Yum. I got my greedy little hands on it last night and have been busy ever since.

Today is dedicated to luxuriating in homemade goodness. I am going to be clean and polished from head to toe…and it’s not even a holiday.

You see, I have needed some serious ‘me’ time and a way to relieve stress for months.

I have coped by splurging on foods that are psychologically comforting but not particularly healthy. My skin is a mess, and I need a better outlet. These recipes came out at the perfect time.

Katie has been helping me write, measure, stir, and test recipes all morning so far. My stress levels are definitely down while the fun quotient around here is through the roof.
