Note from Jennifer: While I am working on catching up with homework – finals are 2 weeks away!! – and living through a home remodel, I’m happy to have Claire Murray, a naturopath from Australia, share some nutritional therapy from a naturopath’s perspective.

Please extend your warmest welcome and make her feel as warm and fuzzy about my wonderful readers as I do!

A common root in such conditions as allergies, food intolerances, eczema + asthma is an immune system responding inappropriately.

Most of us associate our immune system with uncovering + fighting pathogens in the body (like bacteria or viruses) in the form of a healing cut or cold + flu.

Due to many potential reasons (leaky guy, dysbiosis, vaccination, allergy, heavy metals, nutritional deficiency), the immune system can also become ‘sensitized’ to certain substances such as food, pollen, furs, perfumes.

It begins to believe these normally harmless substances to be on par with the bacteria and viruses + creates a similar immune response to fight them.

This results in inflammation, allergies, intestinal symptoms, eczema, asthma and even autoimmune disease.

So, regulating and retraining your immune system so it no longer reacts to these harmless substances goes a long way in the management, treatment + healing of allergies.

Can I take a moment to mention how cute those teeny little toes in the header picture are? Even if you’re not hoping for a little bundle of joy, baby feet should still make you a little mushy.

Ahem, back to business…

Hormones are essentially messengers carrying directives to different cells of the body:

‘start stomach acid production’

‘downregulate insulin production’

‘increase estrogen’

Our entire body relies on the endocrine system to orchestrate homeostasis.

How To Remove Chlorine from Your Water with Vitamin C

Chlorine is one of the many harmful chemicals in our water today. It’s used to kill harmful pathogens in an effort to make water safe to drink. It’s also a known health hazard.

Chlorine is reported to
  • increase the incidence of allergies and asthma (1)
  • cause bladder and rectal cancer  (1)
  • damage airways and soft tissues (2)
  • is a known skin and eye irritant
  • reduce beneficial gut flora
  • in concentration, will cause fluid in the lungs (3)

The acids [created when chlorine and water combine] are corrosive and damage cells in the body on contact. (source)

2 Minutes of Stress Relief for Your Busy Day

2 Minutes of Stress Relief for Your Busy Day

Stress relief in our fast-paced modern day society is almost a misnomer, and yet stress can be the #1 cause of illness and delayed healing.

I make it a key focus in any healing protocol, and it should be an important part of our daily lives.

Our Body’s Response to Stress

The endocrine system regulates the many hormones that carry messages throughout our bodies including the ‘fight or flight’ adrenaline response and cortisol surges that many of us experience each day.

This causes stress to the adrenals, thyroid and pituitary gland and throws off the entire hormone regulating process.

Weight gain, anxiety, fatigue, and digestion disorders are common side effects of chronic stress.

The immune system is also very sensitive to chronic stressors. Stress lowers the body’s ability to fight off harmful invaders and opens us up to catching the neighbor kid’s sniffle or co-workers cough.
