Today I took a time out and spent most of the day in bed while hubby and Katie played outside. Sun and fresh air for her and a nice comfy bed for me. It worked wonders. Cravings continued but it was easier to hold them in check, partly because I have been able to conquer them over the last few days. Who wants to backslide after all that work?

Sauerkraut. My joy and my nemesis. Katie and I started back on a bit of sauerkraut a couple of days ago. I love that I can make such nourishing and healing foods for my family…until Katie had a reaction. It wasn’t her typical die off reaction, it was an allergy reaction. Very significant bumps on her girly parts, bum, hand, belly, and back, itching, hiccups, whining, trouble sleeping. Sigh. Luckily, GAPS has helped assure me of new things she reacts to. Fermented foods seem to be a no no for now (I love being able to say ‘for now’). The reason I started GAPS so abruptly was the frustration with her reactions and not knowing where they came from. We were eating a lot of sourdough pancakes and quite a bit of sauerkraut in the few weeks leading up to GAPS. Thank goodness she is now on a probiotic that her body is responding well to. Luckily, sauerkraut is a go for me and hubby so it doesn’t sit forlorn and unused with my sourdough starter. I’m also taking quite a large dose of my probiotics and feel better and better the more I take. Road to recovery here we come!

And yes, you read the title correctly. I have not had nuts or milk for about 36 hours now (moving into day 27). There was a pat of butter in my morning eggs. Almost all of my swelling has gone down, though under my eyes is still a bit puffy. That should disappear in the next day or two. There is no back pain on waking. I can spring out of bed without having to catch my breath from lower back and hip pain…or I would be able to if I wasn’t extra tired lately. 🙂 The red bumps I was complaining of on the underside of my hands are almost gone. I do have some joint pain in my fingers this morning and a couple of angry new bumps, but the original and subsequent ones are gone or almost so. I’m also starting to lose weight again.

Since hubby had Katie almost the entire day, no food journaling for the day. I had some fruit  – a bit of blueberries and an apple – but did fine with it. No extra itching. Sweeeet. I’m now craving beef so will pull out the crockpot and start the stock from my new marrow bones and oxtails in a bit. Yum.

Tomorrow, we’re going to place the official order for our first pastured side of beef!! Who knew it would be so nerve-wracking and research laden? Which cuts do I want? What does that mean? Luckily, after delving into much internet research, I figured it out. I think. More on that in a separate post.

Happy day peeps!
