Healing Food Allergies and Chronic Illnesses: Baby Step 3 |Foodify Your Recipes with Real Food|

This week’s Baby Step is to create Real Food recipes.

I know you love your Cream of Mystery soup. I do. But you’re here because you want to stop feeling like poo, right? Let’s learn to exchange those mystery foods that go into the average recipe with real food.

Bonus points if it’s organic. Double if the animal products are pastured (not pasteurized). tee hee

See how vibrant the food is in the above pic? Bright red and green raw condiments, creamy white sour cream, and rich brown hearty soup. Once you reawaken your taste buds, it tastes bright and vibrant too.

Start Easy

Pick a recipe that is a normal menu item in your home and take a look to see if it can easily be changed over to real ingredients. Use your favorite handy dandy search engine and type the recipe you want preceded by the words REAL FOOD, like “real food sloppy joe recipe”.

If you are a Cream of Whatever soup kind of person, make your own and make it good. If you like the recipe, make a lot and freeze extra in usable portions. Jenny from Nourished Kitchen has a version that makes my mouth water just reading it. Then again, that’s pretty common with her recipes.

If changing up a recipe is too complicated or involved, chuck it and start with another favorite family.

 

Why do they want dinner every single night?

 

It’s dinner time. You are busy and down-to-your-last-ounce-of-energy tired. You feel like the lady in the picture. To be honest, I always feel like the lady in the picture. And now is not the time to try to convert a meal to real food.

Prep Ahead

Real foodify one of your favorite meals when you have a little more time. Set aside some time on your day off or when someone else is distracting your littles. It can actually be an enjoyable task if you’re not rushed.

Cook the entire meal or at least fully prep it ahead of time, so it requires no more than pulling it out of the slow cooker or fridge to quickly get on the table.

Yeah, you’re gonna have to do this one.

If you burn water, now is a good time to work on that. Find a friend who makes mouth-watering meals and pair up with her to make a few meals ahead of time. You do all the washing, chopping, and non-water-burning tasks and let her do the actual cooking. I bet you’ll both benefit.

Now Do It Again

Get into the habit of preparing at least one meal a week ahead of time. It will take no longer to cook than a prepackaged meal when it comes time to cook it if you’ve prepped ahead.

Start slow and build up at least one real food conversion every week. Every meal that doesn’t contain chemical additives and other things that I don’t even want to think about is an accomplishment. Feel proud then do it again.
